Making the Switch to Clean + Sola Review

Hello Beautiful People!

Today I want to talk to you about an issue that is rather important to me and to top it off I have a great product find that I would like to share with you.

Ok so about 7 years ago I started to notice a sensitivity to a lot of things, like smells and lotions, makeups and skin products. I was getting bad headaches from perfumes, and itchy, red and rashy skin from everything I was putting on me. I felt all over bad. It didn’t take me long to realize that I had these reactions to all my cheap, mass produced and totally synthetic body products.

All the products I was using had something in them that was doing me harm but the fragrances had the harshest effect on me. I was never really a perfume wearing type of girl, but like most upstanding citizens I wore antiperspirant, and the smell from that would bother me all day long!

So I switched to unscented. I started making my way through all the drug store brands but with every one of them I could still smell myself! Without the stench of lavender or roses the typical deodorant just wasn’t cutting it. So I figured since the brand names weren’t doing it for me I would have to look to the all natural world.

I have been seeking out all natural products for a while now, and so last year when I was planning my wedding I went on the hunt for a make up artist that used all organic products and I found the most amazing local store (and makeup artists).

The Green Vanity is our local all natural, vegan, organic and cruelty free make-up and body care product shop. The owner/artist is passionate about delivering only the best to her customers and with her experience and knowledge base, I came to trust her and the companies that she represents. When she told me that she had partnered up with Sola Skin Care and that she is now carrying their best selling Coconut Deodorant I was stoked. I made a special trip downtown just to buy the deodorant, I walked into the store all excited, just to be met with a sad face. She had just sold out of the last of her order, because one woman came in and bought 15 of them! This woman loved the product so much that she bought out the stock and gave them out to all her friends! Needless to say I made a second trip downtown, just to buy the deodorant.

Sola’s Coconut Deodorant

Our best-selling Coconut Deodorant has been garnering rave reviews and enthusiastic fans since its launch in 2013. Handmade without any artificial perfumes or fillers, it’s aluminum-free and uses only top-quality natural ingredients. And it really works: our Coconut Deodorant can stand up to the sweatiest workouts and most stressful days. It works so well because it’s formulated with ingredients that naturally absorb moisture and kill odor-causing bacteria. Infused with a skin-nourishing blend of Chinese herbs, this deodorant also helps soothe irritation and keep skin soft and smooth.

This is the first deodorant that I have ever found that really worked for me. With a very light coconut scent from the oil and nothing more, it’s perfect for my sensitive sense of smell and my delicate skin. (I know, I’m sure a princess). I have been raving to anyone that will listen and I finally decided this needed to be shared on a bigger scale. I emailed them and asked if they wouldn’t mind if I wrote my first review on their product. They were not only enthusiastically positive about this, but they also sent me a few free samples. (Needless to say I am now a die hard fan of their company!)

The packaging is a little different from what you expect and when I told my friends about the product, this was the first thing to throw them off. Sola’s deodorant comes in a small tin instead of the stick or tube that you’re used to. Instead of rolling it up and swiping it on, you just scoop out a little pea sized dab and rub it on with your finger. Before you turn up your nose at the weirdness remember that you would do exactly this to apply cream to any other part of your body… added bonus, if you’re local to their little Vancouver B.C shop, you can bring the tin in to be refilled, saving more garbage from the landfill. If you’re not local the tin can be easily cleaned out and used for anything else!

The Relief Balm

I was so excited when they offered to send me this! I have chronic pain in my neck and shoulders and it’s yet another cause of headaches. I like using creams on my sore muscles and the medicated options work just fine, but I know that it’s not really the best for my skin. Sola’s Relief Balm is, like all their products, all natural and gentle. It warms on contact and not only soothes sore muscles, arthritis pain and minor strains and sprains but moisturizes your skin as well. The scent is a little like tiger balm (eucalyptus) but its not to strong, and doesn’t leave its smell in every room you pass through like most of the medicated options I have tried.

Peppermint Lip Balm

Their Peppermint Lip Balm is a new addition to their product line and they totally nailed it. I don’t actually use lip balm very often because I have an awful habit of licking it off my lips and the regular brand name products always make my tummy feel a little funny when I accidentally do this. This stuff arrived just as my allergies did and I had been blowing my nose all weekend, leaving my top lip rather raw. Two days of applying this stuff, it was cleared up and while it was on it really helped protect my skin from further abuse. Aside from peppermint flavour they also have Unscented, Sweet Orange & Vanilla Lemon

All their wonderful products are handmade in small batches and they use the best quality botanical plant-based and food grade ingredients.  Their products are scented with essential oils (the deodorant is scent free though). They use Chinese and Western herbs, which have been used for centuries for all their amazing healing qualities. They are free from all those nasty parabens, phthalates, synthetic ingredients, preservatives and fillers and the majority of their ingredients are certified organic, and of course they would never test on animals. You can read all about their ingredients on their site! This small company isn’t in it to sell you a product just to make money, they do it because they believe in the product they sell.

If I have convinced you to give these products a try just head over to and place your order. They are offering Free Shipping on Canadian and US orders over 100$.

If those aren’t the products that you need I would like to tell you that they also make a whole range of organic face oils, washes and toners, and a whole range of creams that I have heard nothing but rave reviews about! A favourite I am told is the Bare Bum Balm, which was created to soothe the sensitive skin on a baby’s behind, but has been found to also be great for most minor skin irritations; windburn, sunburn, bug bites, rashes, cuts & scrapes and as lip balm.

Are you sold yet? I hope so! If you’ve tried Sola’s Skin Care products please leave me a comment below and let me know what you think! I would love to hear about everyone else’s experiences. If you haven’t tried this one yet, what have you tried? Do you have a favourite all natural company that you swear by. Share in the comments below!
