Setting Your New Years Resolutions

 It’s that time again! Were saying good-bye to another year, and I don’t think many people are sad to see 2016 go.

Personally though this year has been amazing for me! Last January I was coming into my last semester at college and so ready to graduate from the Therapist Assistant Program. I was engaged to the most amazing man in the world and in the middle of planning the most brilliantly crafty “Books and Bikes” themed wedding!

Also last winter I tried two new sports, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, both of which I am excited to do more of this year!

This past summer we moved back to our favourite mountain resort for a summer of fun hiking and biking. In November we moved back to our hometown and into a basement suite that we completely renovated and redecorated and it’s turned out amazingly. Now I’ve started at a job that I really like working in the adult day program for our local health authority, which means I can check that off my 30 Before 30 List. So I’d say all around this year has been a success.

Looking forward to 2017 I see nothing but possibilities for the Mr. and I. We are planning our belated honeymoon, and my family has been talking about taking a big trip together at some point. I am in the process of taking the courses I need to become a personal trainer and working on starting my own business doing what I love, helping people have fun and stay fit.

 Setting New Years Resolutions

 This year I have learnt so many things about how I want to live my life, what will bring me happiness and how to avoid stress, and with that knowledge I have a few tips for you to consider when writing resolutions for yourself.

Get organized and make a plan

If you are going to set resolutions make it a plan! Just saying that you are going to do something will not make it happen. You need to decide on the whens, where’s and how’s! Write it down and make it happen.

 Make Your Resolutions For You

It’s easy to get caught up trying to be the person that others want you to be. Before you set yourself the goal of being a better mother, wife, friend or employee, you have to decide what is going to make you a better you! What makes you happy, calm and healthy? What areas of your life are you neglecting? Check out this article on how to take care of your whole self

 Focus on what’s truly really important

Resolution shouldn’t be found in a list of goals that you found on Pinterest, they should be things that really truly mean something to you. Focus on what is going to make you happier. If you set a resolution last year and it still hasn’t been accomplished, is it really something that you WANT to do. Life isn’t all about the obligations folks!

 Don’t go over board!

I did some quick research to see what Pinterest had to say about new years resolutions and I came across lists that went on and on with like 50 different very involved goals. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Pick out 3-6 priorities and make those your focus this year.

 My resolutions

I think that this year is going to be a big year for me. I have a direction now that I would like my life to go and I am ready to start putting plans in place to reach my goals. I am healthier then I have ever been and I am set with the knowledge to improve on it. I have finally hit that age where you start really appreciating the value of education again and I am ready to soak up all the knowledge I possible can. So with that I am starting the year with these 7 resolutions in mind. 

  1. To add to my fitness knowledge, get certified as a personal trainer and register for the next course (probably Osteofit). 
  2. To get insurance and a license to start my own business and start taking on clients of my own (before my current position ends). 
  3. To read more educational books, broaden my horizons and learn more about the world around me.
  4. To do more of the things that I say I am going to do, take the trips I say I want to take and make the most of every weekend. 
  5. Spend more time being creative, painting, drawing and writing. 
  6. Stay focused on being as healthy as possible, go to the gym, swim, & do yoga on a regular basis. Maybe cut back on sugar… maybe. 
  7. Spend more time dedicated to building my blog, creating printable and working on my photography.

So hold on tight, and get ready for a wild ride! Bring on the new year with all it’s fantastic possibilities! I’ll see you guys there! Merry Christmas and Happy new year!
